Hahei, Cormandel Peninsula

In early January we took Nana (Erin's Mom) to the Cormandel Peninsula to a little beach town called Hahei.  The Toovey family spent time here last year and had nothing but great things to say, and they were correct.  The picture below shows a view from an estuary on the south end of the beach.  To the north of Hahai is Cathedral Cove and to the south is Hot Water Beach, both big tourist attractions in NZ.  The last 30km drive is VERY hilly and windy, but worth it!

At the south end of the beach there is a really cool rope swing, which Jonah and Naysa spent a lot of time on.  You had to climb up on top of a 10 foot rock to start the swing.

Over the 5 days we laid on the beach, hiked the estuary, hiked to Cathedral Cove, hiked to nearby Cooks Beach/Ferry Landing/Whitianga, explored the coast line (including really cool caves and blowhole caves) on kayaks and paddleboards, and even swam through a sea cave!  Pretty cool for a family from the Canadian prairies.

Paddling through a cave...one of Rob's favorite things to do!
