Then the marathon weekend began. We took in a Sky City Breakers Basketball Game on Friday night. Naysa had a gymnastics birthday party and Erin took a photography course on Saturday. On Sunday was the Mission Bay Triathlon, followed by a beautiful beach and BBQ afternoon with Dave Peak and his family at their home (one of Rob's work colleagues).
Jonah competed in the 'Try-A-Du' Duathlon event (10km Bike, 2km Run) and Rob did a Sprint Tri (500m Swim, 20km Bike, 5km Run). Once again it was a beautiful day, just really early! We had to get up at 5:30 to make our way to the venue. Despite being on a mountain bike and being the youngest competitor, Jonah kept up with the pack and had a great race!
Rob had a great first triathlon experience. He was quite nervous about the open water swim amongst a large pack of people, but in the end it was the bike he found most challenging. I guess he needs to spend more time trying to keep up to Erin on her morning group bike rides! He was 61st out of 227 participants and 14th out of 37 in the 40-49 age group (not officially 40 yet, but Erin is pretty happy about him entering his 40s in any way).
